Aesthetic choices are a core issue in philosophy and art but the workshop aims to create an interaction of different disciplinary perspectives on this important topic. Aesthetics is often a very significant force of change: The length to which humans will go to change their physical appearance and that of their artefacts. The choice they are willing to make on behalf of their offspring. The design of technological artefacts. The interfaces we use for computing. The voices we surround us with. The learning spaces we create. And beyond that: the cultivation of fauna and flora. Rewilding projects. On a political level all of these phenomena are also influenced by the representation they are given, in words, images and film, whose persuasiveness is also depended on their aesthetic qualities.

We invite to a morning of short (7-10 minutes) presentations on how your field and research is involved with aesthetic concerns followed by a round-table discussion on Wednesday, April 18 from 9-12.
